What platforms does N2KView run on, and how does the licensing work?
Estimated Reading Time: 1 MinutesMaretron’s N2KView vessel monitoring and control software runs on dedicated hardware like Maretron’s DSM800 or MBB100, or the N2KView software runs on Personal Computers (PC). Please see the file attached to the bottom of this article showing both the dedicated hardware vessel monitoring and control network diagram and the PC based vessel monitoring and control network diagram.
N2KView Running on Dedicated Hardware
When you purchase N2KView, you receive a hardware license key or dongle that plugs into the USB port of you vessel’s Internet Protocol Gateway (IPG100). The dongle comes with a single floating license that lets you run a single version of N2KView either on dedicated hardware (i.e., Maretron’s DSM800 or MBB100) or from a PC that is networked with the IPG100. If you want to run N2KView from different places simultaneously, you need to purchase additional licenses.
N2KView Running on Windows PC
When you purchase N2KView, you receive a hardware license key or dongle that plugs into a USB port of you vessel’s computer. The dongle should be plugged into the USB port of the computer that is connected to the NMEA 2000 network via the Maretron USB100 gateway. The dongle comes with a single floating license that lets you run a single version of N2KView either on the local computer connected to the NMEA 2000 network, or from any other computer that can be networked back to the computer that is connected to the NMEA 2000 network via the USB100. If you want to run N2KView from different places simultaneously, you need to purchase additional licenses.
