Why does the SSC200 rate of turn indicate that I am turning when I am not turning?
Estimated Reading Time: 1 MinutesThe SSC200 rate of turn may indicate that the vessel is turning when the vessel is not turning. You correct this situation by calibrating the rate of turn gyro within the SSC200 using either a DSM200 or a DSM250. To calibrate the rate of turn using one of the displays:
- Enter menu mode, scroll to "Configuration..." and press
- Scroll to "Device Configuration..." and press
- Scroll to the SSC200 and press
- Scroll to "Rate of Turn Zero Offset Calibration..." and press
- Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the calibration
If you do this calibration at a couple of temperatures (early in the morning right after you power the compass and again at the hottest part of the day), the SSC200 will provide accurate rate of turn indications across that temperature range.
