How do I operate the DSM250 backlights?

Estimated Reading Time: 3 Minutes

The second button from the left is the back-light button. While in favorite screen mode, do a quick press of the back-light button to step through one of three back-light intensities. We say a quick press since a long press of the back-light button performs a different function that we will describe later. By default, the DSM250 back-light is on the brightest setting. Pressing the backlight button one time quickly will cause the DSM250 to go to the low back-light setting. Quickly pressing the back-light button again will cause the DSM250 to go to the medium setting. Quickly pressing the back-light button one more time will return the back-light setting to the brightest or high mode. You can also adjust the intensity for each of the three brightness settings by entering the menu mode with a press of the enter key or the far right hand key. Scroll to the menu item entitled Display Settings using the up and down arrow keys and then press the enter key. Scroll down to the back-light menu item and press the enter key. Notice that the intensity levels for each of the three settings are shown as a percentage of the total available back-light. You can change the intensity for a particular setting by scrolling to the desired setting and pressing the enter key. You can then use the up and down arrows to change the intensity. Once you have set the desired value, press the enter key to accept the value. You can then press the back key three times to return to the favorite screen mode.

The back-light button can also be used to change the color palette. Press and momentarily hold the back-light button, which will cause the DSM250 to switch to a different color palette. There are a total of eight color palettes within the DSM250 and subsequent momentary presses of the back-light button will cycle through the eight different palettes. The default palette is a white background and black foreground. The second palette is a red background and black foreground. The third palette is a blue background and black foreground. The fourth palette is a green background and black foreground. The fifth palette is a black background and white foreground. The sixth palette is a black background and red foreground. The seventh palette is a black background and blue foreground. The eighth palette is a black background and green foreground. You can even adjust the colors of each palette by entering the menu mode. Scroll to the Display Settings and press the enter key. Scroll down to the Color Setup menu item and press the enter key. From here you can choose which palette you want to change by scrolling to the appropriate palette or color set and press enter. Go ahead and experiment with different colors and don’t worry, you can always reset the DSM250 to the factory default palettes by popping up one menu level and pressing enter while the restore factory defaults menu item is selected.
